Welcome to Garfield County! Located in the Southeast corner of Washington State, between Asotin and Columbia counties, this geographically diverse region is bordered on the North by the Snake River and on the South by the Blue Mountains, affording a variety of year-round recreation.

Historically, an agricultural region, Garfield County’s business economy is based largely in service, retail and small production. Garfield County’s rich pioneer history lives on in the local preservation of its historic houses, buildings and family farms. The county supports one port district, the Port of Garfield, which utilizes waterway transport along the Snake River, and is serviced by overland transportation along U.S. Highway 12, with connections to major interstates.

Garfield County is serviced by both the Walla Walla Regional Airport and the Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport.

Motor Freight
Several major motor freight companies service Garfield County including Baker Truck Lines, Swift Transportation and Consolidated Freightways. Express services are available through national carriers.

Major Highways
U.S. Highway 12 bisects Garfield County east-west, connecting to Interstates 82, 84 and 90.

Inland Port Facilities
The Port of Garfield manages industrial sites within the city of Pomeroy, as well as property on the Snake River.

Bus Services
Garfield County Transportation provides transit service to local citizens through the Senior Assistance program.

Safety Services

Police Service
The Garfield County Sheriff’s Department provides police service for the City of Pomeroy and Garfield County with Washington State Patrol servicing the Highway 12 corridor. A Search and Rescue Team and Sherriff’s Posse also operate in emergencies.

Fire Department
Garfield County Fire District is staffed by over 20 volunteer firefighters throughout the county.

Emergency Medical Services
There are 19 trained Emergency Medical Technicians and First Responders operating 2 ambulances and a rescue unit for medical emergencies through Garfield County Fire District.

911 Service
All emergencies are routed through Garfield County’s Enhanced 911 Service.


Garfield County Hospital
Garfield County Hospital District maintains a 14-bed facility with Emergency Room, acute care, physical therapy and lab services.

Nursing Home Facilities
Memory Manor is a 36-bed full-service nursing home facility, with 8 beds available in the Gentle Care Unit.

Medical Clinics
Garfield County Hospital District also maintains Pomeroy Medical Clinic with a physician and two nurse practitioners on staff.
